Nicely tucked in the box, you'll find our harvest from the potato bed. This year we'd put in Maris Piper and Kerr's Pink. All in all, the yield was rather disappointing. I know that the blight had struck the crop relatively early. But there is a lot of small potatoes and only a few bigger ones. I can't quite figure out why. Does anybody have an idea? The soil seems fine, is sandy and crumbly for most parts.
In spite that we had a nice meal with freshly steamed new potatoes from the potatoes we harvested today, and it's been lovely, really tasty and waxy potatoes they are. What can you say: There is nothing better than your own freshly grown potatoes.
There are still more potatoes to come: As a later crop, we've put some "Golden Wonder" in two potato bags on the patio, and they are still growing away although partially affected by the blight. Another month or so, until we can check them out, and fingers crossed the yield will be better.
