This is the first year, in which we've got a really good onion harvest. We selected Red Baron for red onions and the well known Stuttgart Riesen for white onions. They all did rather well this time, and the weather might have been very beneficial for them.
Although I spaced them rather tightly, closer than suggested in the recommendations, they grew very well. Size is one thing, but taste almost more important. I've tried both varieties in the meantime, and must say they are really delicious. the red onions go best into fresh, home made salads, and the white onions with a little bit more byte can be used for almost everything in the home kitchen.
I pulled out a few garlic plants, but had to realise that they'll need a couple of weeks longer. So, I left them in the ground to further grow - nothing's lost yet...
